Cleanroom Garment/Fabric Manufacture Specification Summary

Integrity 2000: Is designed to meet up to and including Class 1 (ISO Class 3) requirements when donned with inner suits. Worn in the microelectonics, semiconductor, and aerospace industries. This fabric offers excellent control of particulation, biopermeation, splash resistance, and static dissipation. This product is highly fluid repellent (Teflon® HT treatment) and also contains a durable antimicrobial treatment (Aegis) to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce bioburden.

Burlington C3: Is a densely woven, static dissipative fabric made of 99% filament polyester with 1% carbon fiber. Is engineered to meet up to and including a Class 10 (ISO Class 4) cleanroom's rigid demands for the microelectronics, semiconductor, disk drive, laser and other similar industries. The C3 high density, ESD double stripe fabric apparel system is deigned to guard against airborne particles and to dissipate static charges.

Integrity 1800: Is a densely woven continuous filament polyester fabric with an ESD stripe designed to meet the quality and performance standards in critical Cleanroom environments around the world. This product is highly fluid repellent (Teflon® HT treatment) and also contains a durable antimicrobial treatment (Aegis) to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce bioburden. Integrity 1800 is recommended for pharmaceutical, biotech and similar applications – Class 10 (ISO Class 4) and higher.

Maxima ESD and Maxima ( Burlington ): Is polyester high-density (HD), calendared static dissipative fabric containing ESD stripe which also repels fluid and bacteria. Fabric is suitable for aseptic environments. Maxima ESD garments can be worn in a variety of industries which include pharmaceutical, biotechnical, biological and food processing. Designed for cleanrooms up to and including Class 10 (ISO 4) where bacterial filtration, static charges, particulate and fluid resistance is desired. Available with antimicrobial treatment (Aegis).

Tyvek® by Dupont: Is a patented microporous laminated fabric used in non-sterile and sterile (if so processed) pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and electronic industries. Garments provide dry particulate barrier performance to 0.5 microns, liquid splash resistance, static dissipation (antistat topical treatment) and a barrier to microorganisms.

Taffeta: Is constructed of 100% continuous filament plain weave polyester fabric. Good resistance to chemicals and abrasion. Designed for cleanrooms up to and including Class 100 (ISO 5). Widely used in pharmaceutical, medical device, food processing and related industries.

Test Descriptions

Air Permeability: The rate of airflow through a fabric under differential pressure between the front and back surface. This test measures in cubic feet per minute a fabric's resistance to air flow. These measurements have a direct correlation to the fabric's breathability. High values may indicate poor resistance to particle filtration.

Moisture Vapor Transmission (MVT): This test measures the rate of water vapor passing through the fabric in 24 hours. The higher the number, the more breathable and comfortable the fabric. Fabrics with very high MVT's are indicative of looser construction and have a greater tendency for bacteria penetration.

Spray Rating: This test measures the resistance of fabrics to wetting by water. Specifically useful for measuring the water repellent efficiency of finishes applied to fabrics. Measured on a scale from 0-100 where 100 indicates complete repellency and 0 represents wetting of the whole surface. Static Decay: This test measures in seconds the time required for a charge to decay from 5,000 volts to 50 volts. The shorter the decay time, the faster the fabric can dissipate the charge. 

Service Resistivity: Electrical resistivity influences the accumulation and dissipation of electrostatic charge. This test measures in ohms per square unit the difficulty in which the charges carry flow through a fabric's surface.

Suter Hydrostatic: This test measures fabric resistance to penetration of water under static pressure as a function of time. Results depend on the water repellency of the fibers, the yarns, the construction of the material and the water repellent finish. The higher the number, the more resistant the fabric is to water penetration.

Definitions

Aegis: An antimicrobial treatment from Aegis Environments. This product was formerly known as DC-5700 from Dow Corning.

Antimicrobial: An inhibitor of bacterial growth and reducer of bioburden.

Aseptic Processing: Production activities that exclude all extraneous living matter, especially microscopic forms like bacteria and fungi, from the production units being assembled, filled, packaged or built.

Autoclave: Pressure vessel with controlled time, temperature and moisture used for steam sterilization of products.

Bioburden: The number of contaminating organisms or tissues on a certain amount of material prior to that material being sterilized.

Calendered: A mechanical device consisting of two or more large cylindrical rollers stacked on top of each other and usually heated. The cylindrical rollers are in contact with each other under high pressure. Fabric being calendered passes between these cylinders. The specific type of calendered finished fabric varies with the nature of the cylinder surface, the speed of the cylinders and the nature of the fabric being finished. Some calendered fabrics finishes require treatment before processing.

Contaminant: Any material, substance or energy which is unwanted or adversely affects the contaminee.

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): The sudden transfer of an electrical charge.

Gamma Radiation: Ionizing radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum derived from radioactive substances such as Cobalt 60 or x-rays. Due to its penetrating ability, gamma radiation is commonly used to sterilize cleanroom garments.

Micron (Micrometer): A unit of length equal to .000001 meters (1 millionth of a meter) or .000039 inches (39 millionth of an inch). The diameter of a human hair is approximately 75 micrometers.

Ohm: Unit of electrical resistance.

Particle: A solid and/or liquid object generally between .001 (nanometer) and 1000 (millimeter) microns in size.

Particulate: A discrete particle of dirt or other material that is not a fiber. Examples are dust, mist, fumes, smoke and fog.

Teflon® HT: A fabric microcoating from DuPont to improve splash resistance to a variety of commonly used fluids.

Treatment: Process of applying a substance in processing.
